    Day Thirty Seven

Today’s radiant words are from The Radiance Sutras:

Experience that everything is made out of divine creative energy–friends, enemies, honor, dishonor.  In this equanimity be perpetually joyous.

Similarly, I can experience the divine creative energy of an ordinary morning filled with routines, music, laughter, challenge, barking dogs, clouds, and sun.  Today I did not lose my keys.  Today I did not forget anyone’s birthday.  Today I took a little more time than usual to kiss the members of my family goodbye as we parted.  Perhaps it felt awkward to them that I took so long to say goodbye, but I have to admit that I was feeling a lot of creative energy in that lingering and I wanted to make it last.

May this moment find you as joyous as the next.  May you feel that my heart is open and devoted to celebrating your perpetual joy.

    Day Thirty Six

Todays radiant words are Sat Nam!

Sat Nam is a greeting.  Sat Nam is a meditation.  Sat Nam is a blessing.  Sat Nam is a mantra, a sound the launches the waves of the mind onto a frequency of truth.  Be truth.  Sat Nam is a sanctuary.  In a world that is full of falsehood and illusion, it is comforting to know that the truth is accessible within.  Simply inhale and mentally vibrate the sound Sat and exhale mentally vibrating the sound Nam.  It’s that simple.

    Sat Nam!

    True name.

    True identity.

May we dwell in the creative consciousness that is truth.  May we dwell in the quiet, still center that is the very truth of our own being.

    Day Thirty Five

Today’s radiant words come from the Sikh tradition’s Puta Mata Ki Asis, or The Mother’s Prayer.  This is a poem that a woman chants, repeats, and reflects upon in dedication to her children.

So drink in forever the Ambrosial Nectar.  May you live long, may the meditative remembrance of the Lord give you infinite delight.  May joy and pleasure be yours.  May your hopes be fulfilled, and may you never be troubled by worries.  Let this mind of yours be the bumble bee, and let the Lord’s feet be the lotus flower.  Says servant Nanak, attach your mind to them, and blossom forth like the songbird, upon finding the raindrop.

Today is my daughter’s birthday, so I repeat the Puta Mata Ki Asis 108 times as an expression of my devotion.

I really do hope that she is not troubled by worries.  My mind has endured the experience of being troubled by worries.  But I am growing to realize what a waste of time that is.  Delighting in the meditative remembrance of the divine is much sweeter.

May all beings grow to abandon worries in favor of immersing an all-meditative mind with the remembrance of divine love, divine light, and divine peace.  Sat Nam!

    Day Thirty Four

I used to live on 73rd Street in New York City.  I would walk through Central Park every day and pass through Strawberry Fields where the word IMAGINE is surrounded, almost daily, with brilliant colorful rose petals.  Nobody can forget John Lennon’s reminder that we should live in peace.  No borders.  No heaven.  No hell.  No religion.  Just peace and sky and the world as One.

Today I imagine a world in which the mainstream media  privileges radiant communication over informative communication.

How are they different?  Radiant communication is communication that offers wisdom. Informative communication offers details.  Radiant communication uplifts the human heart and mind.  Informative communication fills the head and subconscious with more and more stuff to process and eventually need to dump.  Radiant communication is aware of the power of words.  Informative communication disregards the power of words in favor of an idea of feeling free to communicate whatever we want and however we want.

Imagine all the people living for today, living for each other, living for the opportunity to speak with elevated consciousness, think with loving consciousness, write with oneness consciousness that recognizes at once our differences and our connection.  Imagine the peaceful clouds that drift between us as beautiful reminders that we have plenty of room to move and breathe and be with our unique voices and that we also do have the power to energize and uplift ourselves and one another.

    Day Thirty Three

Today’s radiant words are from The Radiance SutrasThe Radiance Sutras:

The air I am breathing was exhaled in ecstasy by an ancient Sun.  This Earth I am standing on was born of cosmic fire.  The blood flowing through my veins is as salty as the primordial ocean.  The space permeating my body is infinite as the space all around.  Above, below, to all sides, within, the elements of the universe are engaged in their ceremony of delight.  This is my religion.  The attraction between suns is the same as the love pulsating in my heart.

May every being’s heart be filled with cosmic fire, burning delight, and pulsating love that is an offering to the Beloved Creation to indulge in its own ecstatic dance into radiance.

    Day Thirty Two

Last night I happened upon some words by Hafiz, the 14th Century Persian poet of ecstatic poetry.  This particular poem talked about how the depth of his love for God had made him into a sweet beggar and how that love was so profound that it tricked God into his bowl.  I love this idea that a devotee’s love can trick the divine into giving gifts.  It’s all so mysterious, mischievous, fun, carefree, and humble.  Hafiz’s poetry inspired my own humble plea.

Dear Beloved Creator of All That Is Who Is At Once All Mysterious and All Mischievous,

Please allow the radiant bodies of every being on this planet to entangle into one Great Radiance that may serve as the lamp which you can always rely upon to guide your way on.

    Day Thirty One

There is a fluid-filled space deep in the center of the brain that yogis call the “cave of Brahma.”  Mystics regard this fluid as a conduit between the parts of the brain that are responsible for rational thinking with the parts of the brain that are responsible for survival functions.  This space is known to neurologists as the Third Ventricle and connects the workings of the pituitary gland, pineal gland, and thalamus.  When all of these brain parts are balanced and working at their obtimum performance, that Third Ventricle acts like the center of a flower where there is nectar.  When those parts work in harmony, the brain enjoys supreme peace and sweetness.

May the river of nectar that flows through your cave of Brahma vibrate the sounds of a sacred current and sync up with the cosmic flow of universal love.

    Day Thirty

Today’s radiant words relate to physics.

Resonant frequency is the frequency at which an object naturally vibrates.

Yogis like to perceive the human body as an instrument.  The body has 72 vital surs, or strings; these are energy channels also known as nadis or merians that extend from the navel piont, the energy trandsformation center of the body.  Just like a violin or guitar constantly needs tuning, so too a human body needs tuning.  Within the yoga community, people often repeat this expression, you attract what you vibrate.  If this is true (as it seems it is in my experience) then chanting the Ik Acharee Chand mantra should attract energies which are invincible, fearless, and compassionate, among others things that I won’t mention here for now (see the link).

That sounds like a good deal.  So, I intend to continue to chant, openly and mentally, until the mantra continually repeats on the bliss mantra playlist that echos throughout my subconscious mind.

    Day Twenty Nine

Today’s radiant words inspire me to contemplate space.

These words are from the The Radiance Sutras by Lorin Roche:

When you gaze in wonder at the stars, allow awareness to become enthralled with the vast spaciousness between them.  Space is an incomprehensible being, an invisible presence, independent, independently wealthy, without beginning or end, and giving.  Space bestows an unbounded theater for suns, planets, constellations, to dance their graceful orbits.  Space bestows upon you an infinite arena to play, explore, and experience.  Consider space in all directions at once, and receive this gift of freedom.

When my yoga students are in the middle of a pose or yoga exercise, I often remind them to mindfully create space in their body or mind by using the breath.  Inhale and expand into the pose, exhale and lengthen into the pose.  Inhale and mentally vibrate the sound Sat.  Exhale and mentally vibrate the sound Naam.

Space is a companion we can rely on to help us move through cahllenging moments in life.  In intimate relationships, people sometimes need to communicate that I need more space, which is to say the intimate partners need to step away from each other for some time in order to rest into the new expansion and length they have gained from the relationship and then also reflect on the identity-in-intamcy with the soul’s destiny.

Space offers freedom and it is nice to know that we can rely on this freedom through awareness.  In other words, our lives may push us into really confined quarters; we may feel limited from social pressures; we may find ourselves in moments where it feels as though we are not in touch with our soul or divine energy.  Just breathe and contemplate the infinity of space.  Don’t only contemplate the infinity of space but identify with the infinity of space.  Realize that you are that spacious.  Being spacious is gracious.

May you feel at ease with your infinite identity.  May you be spacious.  May you delight and wonder at your own consciousness as it basks in its most gracious light!  Sat Nam!

    Day Twenty Eight

I volunteer as a tutor for an adult literacy program called READ/San Diego.  Last night, I attended this program’s annual event at the Balboa Park Club Ballroom that celebrates the accomplishments of adult learners in the program.  The event also recognizes the volunteers, donors, and coordinators who make adult literacy possible here in San Diego.

I felt so inspired to hear the words shared by one adult learner who had earned a G.E.D. through this program.  He said that he was able to keep up with his commitment to learn to read because his tutor continued to show up twice a week to meet with him.

“My tutor is the best.  He does not get paid, but he wants to help me learn to read.  I appreciate his big heart.  He is my hero.”

This evening, I cherished the opportunity for all to break bread together and openly express their gratitude for one another.

The old wisdom claims that life is 90% showing up.   But then when you simply show up and that inspires others in your community to grow, you can rest easy in your own presence and rest easy in the subtle beauty of your own compassionate heart.  And when those who you have inspired acknowledge you for inspiring them, they are giving back on so many levels that we can all together rest easy in that Great One Compassionate Heart.

It is comforting to know there are so many angels out there who are doing their humble best to help each other.  May we continue to create ways to rest easy in that Great One Compassionate Heart.
