    Day Seventeen

Today is a day to look at yourself in the mirror and deeply admire everything you see there.  You are a work of art, my dearest Radiant One.  Wonder at your own beauty and be curious about your existence.  Repeat these words from the The Radiance Sutras:

Radiant One, inquire: Before desire arises in me, who am I?  Before I know anything, who am I?  Seek always the intimate joy of your original Self, and move through this world in freedom.

Please join me in pracitcing this meditation for 11 minutes for 40 days:  Meditation to Develop the Radiant Body

Question for reflection in the light of your own consciousness:

What words would I think, speak, write, and repeat if I knew that whatever words I think, speak, write, and repeat must happen?

    A radiant prayer:

May fortune be on the side of those who improvise.  May we learn from nature and animals.  May we insist on joy in spite of everything.  May we continue to strive to be more gentle and less greedy, more meditative and less consuming and consumed.  May we reflect on our own image with gratitude, wonder, and awe.

    Day Sixteen

Stumbled upon today’s radiant words in the epigraph to Tom Robbins’ Tibetan Peach Pie.

His spiritual nature hides beyond countless oblique paths of eroticism, pursuit of the marvelous, and love of mystery.   –Roger Shattuck

I adore Tom Robbins.  His playful ways inspire me.

May my thousand petal lotus imagination launch upon the silvery moonlit waves that heave upon the ocean of neuroalchemical brainsoup within the Beloved Creator’s Mind.

    Day Fifteen

There is only one radiant word for today:

    Silence.

May I observe silence by not speaking today.  May I give myself the gift of mentally repeating mantras that vibrate prosperity, light, peace, and infinite love throughout the chambers of my mind.  And may the benefits of this practice be received by all beings everywhere.

    Day 14

Today’s radiant words come from Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King Junior:

Change does not roll in on the wheels of inevitability, but comes through continuous struggle. And so we must straighten our backs and work for our freedom. A man can’t ride you unless your back is bent.

May we sit quietly with a long, straight spine and continue to contemplate ways to bring freedom to our hearts and minds in everyday life.

    Day 13

Today’s radiant words are from Leonard Cohen:

There’s a blaze of light in every word.  Doesn’t matter which you’ve heard.  The broken or the holy.  Hallelujah!  //  I did my best but it wasn’t much.  I couldn’t feel, so I tried to touch.  I’ve told the truth.  I didn’t come to fool you.  And even though it all went wrong, I’ll stand before the Lord of Song with nothing on my tongue but hallelujah!

May our collective consciousness come to realize, honor, and celebrate the blaze of light that is in every word.

Over the 40 days, please reflect on this question:

What words would I think, speak, and write if I knew that whatever words I think, speak, or write must happen?

    Day 12

Once, I came across a bar graph that represented a survey.  People were asked to compare how clearly they can articulate their thoughts when they speak versus how clearly they can articulate their thoughts when they write.  More people responded that they felt ten times more able to articulate their thoughts in writing than through speaking.

I wondered how people would respond if the question were not about how well they can articulate their thoughts but how well they could articulate their awareness, their consciousness, their spirit, their soul.  After all, the yogis remind us that the mind releases one thousand thoughts per blink of the eye.  Many of these thoughts are not so useful, and I dare say some are pure garbage.

So, is articulating thought such a helpful thing anyway?  What does articulating consciousness look or sound or feel like in written and spoken words?

When I started wrestling with this idea that it seems we often privilege thought over awareness, I mentioned this to my teacher and expressed my concern about the excess of dark, dark thoughts looming about these days.

My teacher simply said, “Plunge, my dear, plunge!”  I looked at her, confused.  Plunge?  She continued, saying, “Has it occurred to you that your struggle might be a divine tool for bringing about magnificence?”

Today’s radiant words are from the The Radiance Sutras.

Secrets are hidden in darkness and difficult nights.  You awaken into a pang of aloneness, a howl of separation.  This is the call of the Dark One, the roar of life seeking its source.  The union you long for is within reach.  Throw off all hesitation.  Become one with the fear.  Plunge into the uncanny blackness, eyes wide open, as if there were no other choice.  Vibrating with fierce tenderness, breathe intimately with the Lord of infinite space.

May we enter every darkness vibrating fierce tenderness and trust the wisdom of infinite space to guide us to our beloved source.  May breathing intimately with the Lord of infinite space continue to remind us of the shimmering presence of the Beloved Creator of All That Is.

    Day Eleven

Stretching all my limbs and moving freely, I intend to spend this day bathing in wonder and delight.  I intend to use every breath to awaken to equanimity.

May my mind fill with loving kindness as vast as the sky.  May waves of peace wash over every thought that arises in my head.  They say the mind releases one thousand thoughts per blink of the eye.  Then let every one of those thoughts be bathed in shimmering awareness!

I have found that writing radiant words and speaking radiant words are much easier than thinking radiant words.  So, today I focus on my thoughts and take good care of them that my own thoughts may not lead me away from practicing the yoga of wonder and delight.

Throughout the 40 days, continue to reflect on this question:

What words would I think, write, or speak if I knew that whatever I think, write, or speak must happen?

    Peace to All!

    Day Ten

Practicing the yoga of wonder and delight is a great way to confront the challenges of these times.  One technique a yogi practices is an ability to keep steadfast focus on the spacious field of awareness rather than getting caught up in opposite forces, dualism, and dynamics.

Today’s radiant words are from The Vijnana Bhairava Tantra.

Watch for a moment in which two opposing perceptions occur–wanting to go and not going, knowing and simultaneously not knowing.  In that moment, let go of both perceptions and jump in to the interval between.  Reality flashes forth.  Your being is the field of awareness, the continuum in which the opposites play.

Today I encountered a moment where both joy and sadness occurred.  I perceived both.  I identified with neither.  I jumped into the vast interval between them and felt utterly free to witness the play and rest in an expansive sense of awe.

May we witness the play of opposing forces that occur in every moment, but may we feel free to rest in ever-expanding consciousness and a sweet sense of awe.  Sat Nam!

    Day Nine

Where we place our attention makes all the difference to Creation.  It seems it would be wise to be alert to, and careful with, where we place our attention.  In The Radiance Sutras by Lorin Roche, there is some guidance about being alert and attentive when it comes to desire.

Just as desire leaps up, and you perceive the flash, the sparkle, quit from its play, and maintain awareness in that clear and shining place from which all desire springs.

We are human.  We want things.  We want people.  We want recognition.  We want sleep.  We want food.  Desire is an enchanting dimension of human experience.  But to practice keeping a soulful distance from the pressing push and pull of desire gives great pleasure, too.  Focus awareness on the source of all desire so that the push and pull of desire transforms into expressions of your devotion and goodness. .

May you enjoy the infinite gifts of focusing your awareness on the source of all desire. Shine on!

    Day Eight

The body is a fiesta.  The five senses continually provide gifts.  We can regard the five senses as more than methods of perception of our environment and our physical being.  The five sense have a subtle energy component that guide us through a portal to dwell in and celebrate our metaphysical being.

Today I saw a child take some first steps.  Touched by light, I AM this growth and transformation that I see before me.

Today I heard my daughter singing her favorite pop song.  Immersed in an ocean of sound, I remember the presence of angels, saints, sages, and my own inner truth that vibrates endlessly.

Today I tasted spiced tea and hot buttered toast.  Taste invigorates the buds on the tongue and enlightens me.

Today I could smell the ganja in an auto mechanics truck.  Smell is knowing.

Today, as I pulled the trash can in from the street, I touched the sticky webs that surround the handles on the trash can.  Touch electrifies me.

If it weren’t for this body, this soul would have no way of knowing the fascination and mystery that exists within every atom of everything in this earth existence.  The body is a fiesta!

May we sense that every word is a world.  May we sense that every sensation is a portal through which the body and the soul relate to one another in an embrace of infinite gratitude.
